Every decision that you make has an impact on the course of your life. Some are good ones, some are bad – you take the punches and you celebrate the successes!
I enrolled on a course called Cool Hunting in Central Saint Martins in 2014 and it was one of best decisions that I’ve ever made. Why? I made lifelong friends there and I’ve since introduced new friends to old. It was a course that allowed me to learn so much about London, culture, myself and others.
One of the things that I love most from this time is that the course taught us how to ‘cool hunt’. This might sound a bit odd. How do you do that and what is it? Well, what cool hunting is in essence, is to be observant, be mindful and take notice of all that’s happening around you. Carol Morgan, our lecturer encouraged us to go to seemingly common, regular and well known areas across London, but really look at them. Dalston, Bermondsey, Pimlico to Brick Lane, we covered some ground each week. It was fascinating what we absorbed and learned each week by really paying attention – fashion trends, atmosphere, colour, cultural mix, tensions, art, luxury, happiness, poverty – London is bursting with all of these things but we’re not always in the right frame of mind to notice.
I’m really grateful that I took this course and even more thankful for the friends I’ve made from it. We love to cool hunt together and this photograph was taken in the Ham Yard Hotel last week. It was a tip from Nikki, an ever stylish cool hunter! We had a fabulous night catching up over a delicious dinner and drinks.
I’m looking forward to our next meeting already!
