Well, they say that admitting you have a problem is the first step right?
Anyone who knows me, will know that I have a bit of a thing for leopard print. Hands up, guilty as charged, I love it! I know it can have connotations with Bet Lynch from Coronation street if worn the wrong way, but when you get it right, there’s so better feeling! This divine print sneaks its way into my life without my even realising.
A quick edit of my flat has revealed wine holder ceramic leopard print shoes (a gift before you point the finger), a mug, a coaster, ahem a few scarves, blouses, bags, belt and shoes. They say to surround yourself with what makes you happy right?
Sitting down to write this post, I think that this love can be traced back to my childhood when I got my first pet aged 5-years old. Jake was a big fat Tom cat. He had 20 lives, not 9 and we rescued him after a run in with a car. We got the feeling that this wasn’t Jake’s first brush with danger. He had a funny little lopsided mouth from a previous accident, which at times made him look like he was smiling and a devil may care attitude. I fell in love. I was fascinated by his piercing green eyes and he with mine. We were inseparable. He used to sleep at at bottom of my bed like a shadow if I was sick, and he drove my poor Mom crazy with his incessant quest to follow me to school every morning. I secretly loved it.
We had a truly special few years together and when his 20 lives ran out and he was run over by a car outside our house, I was devastated. I had to take an entire week off school aged 10 and I’ll never forget that sadness. Anyone who has pets will understand.
Anyway, how does a little moggy with no regard for his own safety link to my love of leopard print? His collar was this very print and I’ve kept it to this day. I’m turning 29 next month, so this will tell you something about the imprint Jake left behind. I think any time I wear a piece of this print or pick up a trinket or accessory, it reminds me of being happy. What did my other notice within minutes of meeting me? My leopard print shoes:) Come find me when I’m 39, 49, 59, 69 and hopefully longer and leopard print will still have a place in my wardrobe!
My style tip, wear the leopard, don’t let the leopard wear you!
Em, xx
