I had three things that I wanted to do yesterday, sit by water, enjoy the sun and have a beer. Look no further that Crate Brewery and Pizzeria if you’re looking for an afternoon similar to mine! I love the location of this bar nestled on the side of the canal, just a few minutes walk from Hackney Wick overground station. It has a super laid-back atmosphere and great views of street artists, paddle boarders and a hilarious mix of people passing in dinghys with picnics and drinks on board. It’s a brilliant people watching spot.
The bar is airy and bright and furnished with reclaimed railway sleepers, ladders and other natural materials. Inside, you’ll perch on pallet benches and outside you’ll find rows of scaffold plank tables. We sat on the edges of a flower bed just beside bobbing kayaks and boats. This spot isn’t just a bar, there’s also a working brewery called Brew-Shed where you can do tours and tastings. There’s also a boat that you can climb aboard and have drinks while getting a little tour of the area. It’s a great feeling to support this local business brewery and with the busy crowds, you can see that it’s absolutely thriving. You can also enjoy freshly brewed Crate Brewery IPA, cider, lager or a range of imported beers, carefully chosen by the team. There’s also mouthwatering pizza to order too.
Hackney Wick has a vibrant street art scene and these were some of my favourite pieces from the day. I bet by the time you go for a visit, every wall will have been reworked and be bursting with new colours, tags and designs.
