A jewel of Balham

4th March 2015 by emily

I lived in Balham, South London for over 18-months and hadn’t realised that the super talented award-winning designer Sam Ubhi had a wonderful shop just off the high street. Shame on me I know!

Well now that I know it’s there, I want to share it with you so you don’t make the same mistake as me and let it pass your radar for another minute. Sam is famous for creating unique and eye-catching accessories that have elevated her jewellery to modern art status.

Born in Kenya and raised in London, Sam had no formal training in jewellery design. Her raw talent led her to take up a course in Constructive Textiles from Middlesex University and after graduating, she successfully exhibited her work in galleries throughout London and New York. A chance encounter with the Accessories Buyer at Barneys resulted in her first jewellery commission. I’m not one but surprised, I wanted to run out of the shop with most of the pieces, as my my close friend who is a jewellery buyer and designer.

So next time you’re down Balham way – make sure to stop by. You won’t be disappointed!

P.s for any shop interior or visual merchandising fans – your eyes will be out on sticks – I know mine were.
