Put pencil to paper

25th October 2015 by emily

If you have a few hours free over a weekend, I highly recommend a life drawing class! We had booked it as a birthday surprise for one my oldest friends and we had such fun.

It was so nice to have time to sit and spend time creating something from nothing! The life models were brilliant and when you sit and draw, it really shows the beauty and form of the human body. We all started off a bit rusty (I haven’t been to an art class since secondary school) but as we relaxed into it, our drawing improved! We sketched a number of poses, ranging from 5-20 minutes and we joined a class of about 12 others.

The Backyard Bar in Bethnal Green is the perfect venue if you want a laid-back class, it’s a dedicated comedy club venue and the man running the life drawing class encouraged people to get drinks from the bar and most importantly, enjoy the experience. I absolutely loved it, had fun and got back in touch with how much I love drawing.

At only £10 for 2 and half hours, it’s money so well spent. There is an option to pay £20 and stay until 4pm and it also means that you can sketch the models in a 1 hour pose. We took the shorter class and it was a perfect amount of time. I’ll definitely be back.
