This is one of my favourite times of year. As November quickly turns into December, my mind begins to wander to Christmas time in Dublin. Here are some of the things that I’m looking forward to most.
- Tight hugs at Dublin Airport arrival hall – that amazing feeling of being home.
- Flower sellers on Grafton Street with stalls bursting with holly and gorgeous winter flowers. Their calls and voices never change.
- Dun Laoighre Pier, streaming sunshine, tinkling boats, excited dogs pulling on leads and Teddy’s Ice Cream.
- Dublin pubs, excited revellers, warm air, laughter, the smell of Guinness, mulled wine and old friends.
- Cold air that stings your face, no matter how many layers you wear.
- Traditions – hanging decorations, gold Santas’, spiced beef, the first batch of mince pies and long chats.
- Sitting in front of a real fire, the smell of briquettes and the feel of real heat.
Go on, tell me what you’re looking forward to this festive season?
