I’ve been making sure not to lose my ‘cool hunting’ training and to keep an eye out for off-beat finds and inspiration on my weekend wanders. I’m chuffed as I seem to be on the money of late!
I found this amazing vintage 1960s edition of Vogue in a market in Ealing, West London over the weekend. The lady who sold it to me said her husband, an art director for Christie’s used it in a photo-shoot. I nearly died of excitement and couldn’t believe someone else hadn’t snapped it up by the time I got there mid-afternoon. The spreads are inspiring with one model really reminding me of Adele with her beehive and feline flicks. The front cover announces the colour of the season as ‘windsor grey’. It just goes to show that fashion really does go in cycles and how the look and feel of the 60s is so inspirational for this season’s trends.
Another great find which I’m still buzzing from is my edition of the fashion tomb ‘STYLIST’. This gorgeous coffee table book details the work of 16 of the world’s top stylists. I picked up a copy on sale for a snip of its full price. One page is more beautiful than the next and I know I’ll dip in and out of it for years.
Today I bought a book that I remember coveting last year. It’s the fantastic ‘Berlin Street Style’. I love everything from the cover design to the digestible style nuggets inside. The advice is sound and I most definitely want to know what effortlessly cool Berliners are wearing. I visited last November and will read this for great tips and hidden gems in the city to help plot a return trip.
What else have I picked up? A cracking 1970s London bus framed mirror, again from that vintage market in Ealing. What made it even better was that I’d just taken a picture of a cute wedding bus in Acton before stumbling across the market.
I have my Mom and sister to thank for the other lovely additions to my life. A deep blue pendant, sliver and blue earrings and a gorgeous floral scarf to brighten increasingly wintery days.
What great things have you found lately? I’d love to hear!
