There’s nothing like a good belly laugh is there? The kind that makes you almost burst out a mouthful of tea, snort in public or double over to clutch painful sides. My best friend Niamh’s laugh is the best. She’s almost totally silent and sometimes you don’t even notice she’s laughing until you spot her trademark shoulder shake and tears. I love it! Another friend of mine, Olivia has a laugh so infectious I think she’d set people off on the other side of the world to be honest! Des, my flatmate is famous for his laugh and I think I’ve lost count of the number of times that we’ve nearly had to lie down we’ve laughed so much over embarrassing moments, jokes or general giddiness. Our neighbors must hate us!
I love that one word amongst family or friends can trigger a memory or a sideways look or a great gag that will reduce everyone to a heap in seconds. It’s the best feeling.
I must admit that it’s been brought to my attention recently that my Google searches are ridiculous. In my defence, they are purely for research on finding funny things. Having cast back over them and being completely honest, I can report, cats interrupted while sneezing, celebrities that look like animals, Bridie from Roscommon, grumpy cat and people falling over at weddings on YouTube. Well, I stand by my searches because in my mind, a laugh a day keeps the doctor away!
I must also take my hat off to Dale McCarthy-one of the most quick-witted caption masters there is. I can’t believe I’m even writing that because he’ll never let me live it down! Even though I’m more often than not the butt of the joke, I salute you. Well played my friend.
Here are some of my recent favourite finds for inducing a chuckle:
