A quick post for you today and it’s to tell you about an area of Zurich that I can’t wait to experience in the sunshine and heat – Flussbad Unterer Letten. When I visited Iain here back in 2015, he raved about swimming and relaxing by the river or lake. His face lights up when describes jumping into the water with friends. He had many days surrounded by crowds of people, all enjoying the best of what this city has to offer.
I love cities with recreational and swimming areas woven into the fabric and routine of how people live. It’s one of the reasons that Austin in Texas and Brisbane in Queensland are two of my favourite places I’ve ever visited. Brisbane’s man made lagoons and beaches bring a sense of fun and leisure that all ages can enjoy. In Austin, it’s fantastic natural springs that lie within easy reach of the busy downtown area that help with a sense of work-life balance.
And that’s what is so special about Zurich too. We walked over a bridge and below us sat the Unterer Letten, the oldest riverside bathing facility, opened in 1909. I can picture people sunbathing, chatting or relaxing in the shade and embracing outdoor life. The riverbank is lined with cool bars, striking metalwork art and seating areas, adding an industrial feel.
Another lovely thing to put on my list when we can enjoy being outside again.
Stay safe, happy and strong everyone. x
